SIPDP supports RSIPF for implementation of the Justice Information Management System (JIMS)

The Australian Government funded Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) is supporting the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) to implement the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) Justice Information Management System known as JIMS.

In 2015, the SIG commenced transitioning all justice sector agencies to a consolidated JIMS.  The vision is to have a system that interlinked between justice agencies and established a more effective and efficient way of managing data shared between agencies.  These Agencies include RSIPF, Police Prosecution Directorate (PPD), Office of Director Public Prosecution (ODPP), Public Solicitor Office (PSO), Attorney General Chambers (AGC), Magistrate’s Court (MC), High Court (HC), and Corrective Services Solomon Islands (CSSI).

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ian Vaevaso says, “The SIPDP JIMS Advisor and team recently commenced delivering training on incident creation and daily incident reporting to Crime Desk Officers within Honiara and Guadalcanal Province. “

“Workplace training is continuing with officers from White River, Central, Henderson and Naha police stations and the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID). Due to the success of the workplace training in Honiara, the team have commenced visits to the provinces and this week travelled to Rennell Bellona (Renbel) Province to meet with RSIPF officers at Tigoa Police Station.”

“The JIMS team travelled with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Radio Communications scoping team. The alignment of the Communication project and JIMS Implementation project provided another opportunity to demonstrate the valuable partnership between Australian Federal Police (AFP), RSIPF and ADF in working together to improve policing in Solomon Islands,” says DC Vaevaso.

He adds, “According to information about the trip to Tigoa, members of the Rennell Bellona Provincial Assembly were happy to receive support from Australia and are looking forward to the implementation of these new systems.”

 Recently the SIPDP provided building works and installed power at the Tigoa Station resulting in officers now having power supply for core policing equipment.
