Manele accepts nomination for PM’s election

The MP for Hograno/Kia/Havulei and caretaker minister of Foreign Affairs Jeremiah Manele has accepted the domination to be the candidate for Our Party and its partners for Thursday’s election of Prime Minister.

CNUT which consist of OUR Party, the Peoples First Party and Kandere Party nominated the former foreign minister as its PM candidate.

Manele told the media that he formally accepted the nomination for the Prime Minister’s position. The nominators are: Sogavare, his former deputy PM Manasseh Maelanga, People First Party Leader Fredrick Kologeta and Kadare Party leader Jammie Vokia.

Sogavare said they have a combination of 28 MPs. The simple majority is 26 members.

He also announced that Manele is the Parliamentary Wing leader for Our Party.

Governor General Sir David Vunagi today announced that nomination for the PM election of Thursday opened this morning and closes 4pm tomorrow.

The CARE/United Party collation have yet to announce their candidate for the PM’s election.
