The Rotaract Club of Honiara, Solomon Islands over the weekend witnessed the official induction of its 19 new members and changeover of leadership roles to the new board and executives for the 2021/22 year during the annual ball night event on Saturday 18th September 2021 at SMI Grounds.
The night’s celebration also marked the 5th Anniversary of the capital based youth club since it was officially charted in 2016. Since then club has been engaging in a lot of community services and projects throughout the country in partnership with its parent club, the Rotary Club of Honiara and other youth organizations in Honiara.
Club outgoing president Aidan Ofu in his short remarks thanked the club’s major sponsors and partners for their ongoing support in the Rotaract year 2020/21.
“I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Honiara and the Rotarians for their support and our successful partnership throughout last year” he said.
“To Islands Enterprise management and GTL Holdings management with Tatiana Wickham we are also grateful for your ongoing support in projects and community services, and for lending us your resident for our fortnight meetings”, Mr Ofu said.
He said despite the challenges posed by the pandemic straining the club’s resources to deliver on planned projects last year, he is proud of the club’s commitment to make up for those through community services and engagements reaching out to schools of the needy like Bethesda in Henderson, San Isidro school in West Guadalcanal and Red Cross school of special needs at Riffle Range, West Honiara, for which he acknowledged the outgoing board and the club body for their commitment in those engagements.
Mr. Ofu also highlighted that his board’s commitment last year was to organize fundraisers to finance the time to time function of the club in which it was achieved through number of fundraisers the club organized last year.
Speaking also during the event, incoming club president Damien Yee who on behalf of his board, highlighted that their focus is to carry on the projects that the club was unable to execute last year.
“During my term as the president for the club, this year we will focus more on projects and carry on with planned projects from last year, I have seen how the club has worked together and I am confident that despite challenges we will deliver our planned activities and projects for this year smoothly”, Yee expressed.
He also encouraged the members on why they should be proud of themselves in the work they are doing and emphasized on how the club has trained and shaped youths, grooming them into confident leaders.
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Honiara, Sir Bruce Saunders shared their president’s best wishes for the club and reminded the club of why they chose to be Rotaractors.
Sir Bruce also applauded the club in involving more girls in leadership roles starting from the youth age and as Rotarians they are proud of how the club members have grown.
“The members that are here tonight we are so proud of the club and we are confident that the future of Solomon Islands is in capable hands because of fine young men and women like you” he said.
Club mentor Tatiana Wickham also shared the same sentiments, thanking both the outgoing and incoming board for their commitment and spirit of cooperation with the club member.
Speaking in Pidjin she said, “Mifala barava happy and mifala garem hope that thisfala nation baebae hem garem good future because of way youfala lookim perspective in life, and I take my hat off to that”.
The new Rotaract year starts in mid-July this year and will end in June 2022 and the club already has its calendar plans drawn up to execute their projects, community services and activities for the year.
