Australia and Solomon Islands have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a land swap, allowing progress with construction of a new Australian High Commission chancery on Lengakiki Ridge, in West Honiara.
The Australian High Commission Facebook page reported that the MOU was signed by High Commissioner Lachlan Strahan and Commissioner for Lands Allan McNeil on 20 October.
The new chancellery will cost just over $65 million (AUD), and is required to be built within four years, the high commission said.
Technical officers from Australia are ready to start preliminary work and the projects architect will be appointed shortly.
