Taking aim at the target ring…Selwyn College students this afternoon.

Under the watchful eyes of the President of the Solomon Islands Archery Federation, Richard Toke, Selwyn College students took aim at the archery target ring this afternoon.

Toke and his team were at the Selwyn College Archery Club to get the students first hand- experience with archery bows and arrow in a shooting exercise.

“It’s the first time we actually do a shooting exercise though our club was established sometime ago,” said coach Joe Sale of Selwyn College.

Toke said his team is going around schools to promote the sport and develop a team for the 2023 Honiara Pacific Games.

He said the sport has attracted a lot of interest and they are targeting schools to promote it.

“We are here because this school has an interest and has an outstanding tradition in sports,” Toke said.

Besides Selwyn College, archery clubs have been established in certain schools already in communities in and around Honiara.

Toke said they are confident that the sport would do well in the PG2023.

He did not rule out winning medals believing that at least there is a good chance of them winning medals at the game.

“So far our athletes have done really well so I am confident,” he said.
