Solomon Kings’ import Jez Lofthouse says he cannot wait to make his home debut on Saturday in front of local fans — with two very special spectators in the stands, his mum and dad.

The Solomon Kings midfielder, who hails from Queensland, said playing for the country’s first professional football team has been a unique and exciting experience despite his years playing in Australia’s A-League.

Speaking to SBM, Lofthouse said the passion Solomon Islanders have for football is something special.

“It will be a very special moment for me to have my parents fly in this weekend to watch me play in front of the home fans,” Lofthouse said.

“I am so excited and can’t wait to play in front of the fans here. The boys have been telling me that people here are crazy for football, and I’ve already seen that during our school visit today.”

He expects an electric atmosphere at the stadium.

“It will be an awesome atmosphere and a great occasion for the home fans,” he said.

Lofthouse also praised his teammates, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

“It’s not a one-man team but the whole squad. We really need everyone,” he said.
“All the boys are so good, so it’s about all of us working together.”

The Solomon Kings, currently sitting third on the ladder, will face league leaders Auckland FC in what is billed as one of the standout matches of Round 4.

The New Zealand side will be looking for revenge after their earlier loss to the Kings, who are expected to have thousands of fans backing them at the National Stadium.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm on Saturday.
