Thieves use boats to transport goods after looting & stealing Chinese shop, 4 arrested

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested four male adult suspects in relation to a looting incident that happened in the early hours on 12 February 2022 in Chinatown.

Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau says, “The incident happened early in the morning when a group of more 20 to 30 people came in and threatened the owner of the Chinese shop, enter and ransack the store.

Commissioner Mangau says, “The group even removed huge amounts of cash from the shop and opened three containers and removed dry goods from those containers. Police managed to recover SBD $26,000.00 plus during the investigation.”

Mr. Mangau says, “The looters use boats to transport stolen items from Chinatown to Koa Hill which police allegedly believe that the suspects kept those stolen items. During the incident few Chinese have minor injuries.”

“Investigation into the matter is still ongoing. I would like to assure the Chinese Community in the country that police would deal with those responsible to face the full force of the law. Police is now re-strategize to extend its operations by covering those areas,” he says.

The Police Chief says, “I appeal to the good citizens of this country to respect our Chinese brothers and sisters. They are here to do business which will help keep our economy floating during these trying times.”
