Prime Minister Matthew Wale has appointed senior journalist Douglas Marau as his Press Secretary.

Marau is a long-time media officer for Wale, having served as his press secretary during much of his tenure as Leader of the Opposition.

He is no stranger to the role, previously serving as Press Secretary to former Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo between 2013 and 2014, and later serving under former Prime Minister Rick Hou in 2018. Marau also briefly worked as Deputy Press Secretary under former Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.

Confirming his appointment to SBM Online, Marau said: “Yes, I have been offered the job and have fully accepted the offer.”

Marau, who is of Makira-Ulawa and Malaita parentage, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Divine Word University in Papua New Guinea and a postgraduate diploma in diplomacy and international affairs from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji.

He began his journalism career in 2008 with the Solomon Star newspaper before transitioning into government communications, where he went on to serve under several political leaders across successive administrations.
