Suidani files case against Seleso, AG and Speaker of Malaita Assembly

PREMIER SUIDANI FILES CASE AGAINST MINISTER, AG AND SPEAKER OF MALAITA PROVINCIAL ASSEMBLY

Premier Daniel Suidani of Malaita Province today filed a case in the High Court against the Minister of Provincial Government Rollen Seleso, the Attorney General John Muria Jr and Deputy Speaker Joe Heroau.

In a statement tonight, Suidani states he is seeking a High Court order for Seleso to appoint the executive members that he has nominated, as is the normal procedure provided for under the Provincial Government Act.

Suidani is also seeking a High Court order for the Deputy Speaker of the Malaita Assembly, Heroau to swear in the executive members.

Both Heroau and Seleso have so far refused to take these actions.

Premier Suidani terminated the former Deputy Premier Sifoni through his powers under the Provincial Government Act, but Sifoni has refused to accept the termination, the statement states.

Suidani has also already made several nominations of new Executive Members to replace the ministers that resigned from his government.

The premier is seeking urgency to have this matter heard and decided on by the High Court due to the inability of the Malaita Provincial Executive to operate whilst appointments are held up by the Seleso and Deputy Speaker Heroau.
