SOLOMON ISLANDS RECORDS 2ND COVID-19 CASE

With in seven days, Solomon Islands now has two confirmed COVID-19 cases as announced by the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.In his national address after lunch hour today, Sogavare said: “Today I now wish to confirm our second case. It was diagnosed overnight in the second testing under our protocol for all our retuning nationals. The person is a student that came in the repatriation flight from the Philippines. He was sitting close to the first positive case during the flight.”Sogavare said the person has already been transferred to the NRH Isolation Unit for further observations.“Like the first positive case this person does not show any signs of the illness. The person occupied a single room at the quarantine station and therefore the chances of transmission to other students in the quarantine station is minimal.“I wish to assure the nation that the diagnosis was made the quarantine stations which is a controlled environment. This means there is no possibility of spreading to the community.“The infection is being contained and it will be managed and eradicated before the student is released from quarantine and isolation,” the premier minister, said.A total of 92 tests were conducted yesterday and only one out of the 92 turned positive.The first case who was also a returning student from the Philippines is now recovering at the NRH Isolation Unit after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 last Saturday.
