Solomon Airlines has confirmed that its aircraft was in Port Moresby today offloading plane full of day old chickens flown from New Zealand to Papua New Guinea.

“Yes that’s our aircraft carrying plane load of day-old chicks to PNG,” said Bill Tyson, who is the Acting Chief Executive Officer, when speaking exclusively to SBMOnline this afternoon.

He also confirms that it was a private charter.

Tyson explains that the aircraft had flown from Brisbane to New Zealand where it picked-up the day old chicks before flying to Port Moresby.

He said the aircraft was expected back in Brisbane where it is based.

Tyson assures the public that the plane will be thoroughly and carefully disinfected when it gets back to Brisbane.

“I can assure the public that the plane will be disinfected, safe and ready for use,” he said.

The aircraft is currently based in Brisbane during the Covid-19 pandemic and only carries out repatriation flights as required by the government.

SBMOnline has received photos this afternoon from Port Moresby with concerns been raised following the spike of cases in PNG where the aircraft was this afternoon.
