Dawea: RSIPF recruit training moulds and shapes my character

For 33 year-old Police Recruit (RCT) David Dawea Noli from Tanga Village in the Reef Islands of Temotu Province his training so far at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force Academy has “motivated, moulded and shaped his character”.

RCT Noli is one of 69 new recruits from Honiara and throughout the provinces including 13 female candidates who make up the second RSIPF recruit group for 2019. They started their training on 16 December 2019.

Asked why he wanted to join the RSIPF, a confident looking Noli remarked: “From the community that I come from in the capital Honiara there is a great need to educate our youth in terms of upholding the laws of our country.”

He continued: “There are a lot of youth involved in the drivers of crime in the city including the consumption of alcohol, kwaso, marijuana, smoking and betel nut as well as other drugs. These issues are fuelled by the high unemployment and limited education opportunities.”

“The young people who are idle become bored, causing feelings of low self-esteem and a sense of hopelessness, which can lead to youth committing crime.”

RCT Noli, who is married with four children – three girls and one boy – who are currently in primary school added: “I believe as a police officer I will be able to assist these youth by explaining through awareness the possible consequences of their actions and hopefully they will not become involved in crime but become useful citizens of our Hapi Isles.”

He believes that his training so far at the RSIPF Academy is having an impact on his character.

“I believe the training so far at the Academy has motivated, moulded and shaped my character. I have become more disciplined. I want to encourage both male and female youth who may have not been able to find any employment to seriously consider policing as a career. It’s not just another job but one that will mould your character to becoming a better citizen of Solomon Islands,” said RCT Noli. RCT Noli, a keen football player, completed Form 5 in 2009. He was accepted into the RSIPF Recruit Training after applying several times with encouragement from his relatives.
