Four experienced players of the Solomon Islands national team Benjamin Totori, Joses Nawo, Michael Boso and Dennis Ifunaoa are suspended by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) from the national team for disciplinary reasons.

SIFF Technical Director, Moses Toata revealed this in a press conference today with the local media during the announcement of the national team’s provisional squad.

“Totori, Nawo, Boso, and Ifunaoa are amongst those omitted because of disciplinary reasons,” he revealed.

“These key players were out on a drinking spree before the team took off to Samoa for the Pacific Games”.

Toata believes in football such practice is a bad germ in any national team heading into an international competition.

“They were supposed not to travel with the team, but a conscious was reached by the players and former coach Win Rijsbergen so they eventually traveled with the team.

“This has contributed to the poor performance of the team during last year’s unsuccessful Pacific Games campaign under the Netherland coaches.

“This is a very serious breach after SIFF invested a lot of money into preparing the team including the Netherlands – Singapore tour and bringing overseas coaches in the quest to win Gold for the country.

“When players do not respect the rules, they have no place in the team. It is simple”, he explained.

The former national team coach fire a warning to current national team players as a precedent has been set by this recent case.

“SIFF is very serious when it comes to discipline. This action to suspend the players is necessary to set the right precedent for future national teams,” Toata added.

The four players are suspended for an indefinite period but the suspension is not applied to club football.
