Police interviews current & former MP for N/E Guadalcanal on alleged election bribery offences

Detectives from National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have interviewed the current Member of Parliament (MP) and former MP for North East Guadalcanal Constituency on 6March 2022.

SBMOnline can confirm that it is public record that the MP for NE Guadalcanal is Hon. Ethel Lency Vokia whilst the former MP she replaced is her husband Jamie Vokia.

The accused had been interviewed in relation to election bribery offences in the 2019 National General Election (NGE).

Both accused were interviewed and released on police bail with their charges filed before the court and they will appear before Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 21 March 2022.

Both accused bailed with the following charges.

·         Election Bribery: Contrary to Section 126 (1) (a) and (b) (ii) of the Elector act 2018. And

·         Conspiracy to defeat justices and interference with witness: Contrary to Section 116(b) of the panel code 9Cap26) to be read with section 21 (a) of the Penal Code (cap 26)

Acting Director NCID, Superintendent Michael Bole says, “Police will locate and interview three other co-accused in relation to this matter in the coming days.”

Superintendent Bole says, “I would like to thank the investigators for the well done job during the investigation.”
