Man dies in Honiara after suspect beats him with walking stick

The National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested a suspect for the allegation of murder at West Kola ridge in Honiara this morning (24 October 2022).

The murder incident occurred yesterday (23 October 2022) while the deceased and the suspect drinking kwaso (homebrew) at the top of the Jacobs ladder at West Kola ridge area.

Director NCID, Superintendent Michael Bole said both had an argument after the deceased sent the suspect to fetch some water to mix their kwaso. The suspect returned with no water and this was where the argument heat-up and the suspect beat the deceased.

Bole said the suspect allegedly used a walking stick belonging to the disabled person (deceased) and beat him three times and speared the hum at the back of his neck causing him to be unconscious.

The deceased was transported to the National Referral Hospital and pronounced dead by the medical authorities, he added. The deceased is currently at the morgue and officers are working closely with medical authorities for a possible autopsy.

Bole said investigation into the matter is ongoing and police appeal to anyone around the area where the incident occurred to assist with information.

The NCID Director shared his condolence to the immediate family members for the loss of their loved one during this dark moment.
