Police today order the arrest of all vehicles driving around in Honiara without number plates.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Juanita Matanga said as of this week they will detain any vehicles that do not display number plates until the owner comes forward with a number plate.

She said it is against the law for vehicles to drive around without the display of number plates.

Matanga said there are currently a lot vehicles driving around without number plates, with some of them tinted and they could not identify the owner—  and this is a risk for them.

However, she said police will take action as of this week.

“This week we will closely watch them—whoever does not have a number plate we will detain them until the owner brings the number plate,” said the deputy commission of police.
