Premier Suidani is part of a 6 men panelists that includes the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Environment Dr Melchior Mataki that sat on the Islands in the Sky: Global Action by Sovereign Collectives of Pacific Indigenous (Sky Islands Initiative)(Nia Tero) presentation.

The lively discussion started with a short 7 minutes breathtaking video clip produced by our own indigenous youths that are part of the Sky Island initiative. The moving video clip was repeated at the end of the session.

To show case the intactness our unique indigenous cultures and traditions, the Premier made his presentation in his very own native Fataleka language and is interpreted by his political advisor Mr. Talifilu. This add a special flavour to the presentation by the Sky Islands initiative.

Mr. Suidani acknowledged the unique opportunities provided under the Sky Islands pledge to ban logging, mining and other commercial activities at and above the 400m contour line that was signed by the then PRIME Minister Hon. Rick Houenipwela in December 2018.
In doing so premier Suidani announced in his presentation that the Malaita Provincial Government will be banning logging from the provincial territory by 2023. Mr Suidani made it clear that such destructive development like longing can no longer be tolerated in his province.

In this time and age where technology and technical knowhow has improved the way development is conducted. We cannot continue to harbour destructive development that will deny the welfare and livelihood of our future generations. Mr. Suidani stated.

As the leader of Malaita Province and an indigenous Solomon Islander myself. I do not want the future generation of Malaita Province to remember me as an irresponsible ancestor and leader. Our ancestors have been very responsible in keeping the place, the environment where we are today. Thus as the leader of Malaita Province I owe it to them the same duty of care and responsibly to ensure the future generation of Malaita Province has the same privileges and endowments to the resources that have been passed on from our ancestors.

Apart from the participating in the Sky Islands presentation. Mr. Suidani have met and interacted with a good number of representatives from international and global institutions who are in a position to provide uniquely sound and sustainable developmental opportunities.

I am so privilege to have attended this gathering and to make contacts with likeminded people who share my vision of development. I will work with these opportunities for my people of Malaita province. Mr Suidani stated.

As the head of the Malaita Provincial Government I will continue to work within the current legal framework of our country to leverage appropriate support for the development of my people of Malaita province. Said Mr. Suidani.

It is understood this is the second overseas trip the Hon Premier of Malaita province made after coming into office no more than a year ago. Similarly this is the first premier of Solomon Islands to have been given the opportunity to attend a COP global conference.
