High Commissioner Sisilo presents Letters of Introduction to PM Morrison

Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Australia His Excellency Mr. Robert Sisilo has presented his Letters of Introduction to the Australian Prime Minister Honourable Scott Morrison yesterday (12/02/2020) at the Prime Minister’s office in Canberra.
They took the opportunity to discuss issues relating to bilateral cooperation between Australia and Solomon Islands.
Both leaders acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Australia and Solomon Islands as permanent partners who share common borders.
His Excellency Sisilo thanked Australia for the Labour Mobility Program which has great positive impacts to many Solomon Islands citizen who have engaged in the Seasonal Workers and Pacific Labour Scheme.
The High Commissioner also acknowledged Australia as the key development partner of Solomon Islands and express his commitment to pursue to maintain and enhance this close cooperation during his term in office.
High Commissioner Sisilo conveyed warm greetings from the government and people of Solomon Islands to the Prime Minister.
He further conveyed condolences for the bushfire tragedy in Australia.

H.E Sisilo was also informed of plans for the Australian Governor General, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d) to visit Solomon Islands.
Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison reaffirm Australia’s ongoing support to the region through its Pacific step up program and also Australia’s ongoing relationship with Solomon Islands as reflected in his first international visit to Honiara last year.
According to PM Morrison: security, development and prosperity remains Australia’s commitment and priority areas for the region.
Hon. Morrison stated that security must come first, before prosperity and development can be flourished.
He further stated that post-RAMSI support will continue in defence and policing while the proposed border post in Western Province will be established according to its establishment schedule.
Under the pacific step up program, Australia has introduced the new Pacific Secondary Scholarship which will begin enrolling by mid-year for successful applicants in the Pacific including Solomon Islands.
Australia recently handed over the Coral Sea Cable Project, and a new Guardian Class Patrol Boat for Solomon Islands.
Australia is also supporting the Tina Hydro project, which will be a boost to the country’s economic and development aspiration. Solomon Islands is also stepping up its presence in Australia with the establishment of a new fully-fledged Consulate General office in Brisbane.
H.E Sisilo is Solomon Islands 6th resident High Commissioner to Australia. Solomon Islands High Commission office in Canberra manages bilateral cooperation with Australia and oversees the country’s relationship with 33 Accredited Missions in Canberra, while maintaining ongoing relations with the other 109 foreign diplomatic Missions based in Canberra.
