The Leader of Opposition, Hon. Matthew Wale calls on the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare to explain the true situation with the government scholarship awards approved for the constituencies.

The Leader of Opposition says, “Recently, Cabinet approved 6 scholarships each for our 50 constituencies for the 2020 academic year”.

“These are additional to the awards approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development.

“By the sound of things however, it appears as though the situation is now out of control with certain ministers getting quotas way above the approved number of 6,” says Hon. Wale.

The Opposition Leader points out that this is causing confusion amongst parents and students alike and so the government must explain.

“I therefore call on the PM to explain the real situation.  Our students are our investments for the future, hence it is important that they are educated,” adds Hon. Wale.

Hon. Wale goes on to say, “While it is important that we educate our young people, it is equally important also that our students are all given equal opportunity and consideration, and that the responsible ministry must be fair, transparent and must award scholarships on merit.  We want quality education and nothing less.”
