GG declares election of new PM on May 2nd, nominations open

Governor General Sir David Vunagi has made a swift decision for the election a new Prime Minister this Thursday.

In a letter to all the MPs, Sir David said the election the PM takes place on May 2^nd, and dominations opened today and closes at 4pm tomorrow.

“By virtue of section 33(1) of the Constitution, as read with Schedule 2 to the Constitution, I, Sir David Vunagi GCMG KStJ, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of Solomon Islands, hereby issue this notice to convene a meeting of the Members for the purpose of electing a Prime Minister a s follows:

(1) the date shall be on Thursday, 2nd May, 2024, at the Chambers of the National Parliament, at 9:30 am,” he said.

Furthermore he said nomination will close at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024;
