THE Honiara City Council (HCC) newly proposed Betel-Nut Nature Park market construction at Tuvaruhu, (Gegema) in Central Honiara is now in progress.
This was an alternative site of which the Honiara City Council had in mind to address illegal vending of betel nut along the street of Honiara city.
Acting Honiara City Council Lord Mayor Robert Oge highlights, while we are preparing for the South Pacific Games (SPG), HCC wants to build this site for betel-nut vending.
“Hopefully this Betel Nut Nature Park market will be completed by the end of April, 2023,” Acting City Mayor Oge explained.
He said once it is completed, HCC will start to accommodate betel-nut vendors.
“We will try as much as we can to make sure we quickly finish the construction site.
“This betel-nut nature park market is an open site in which betel-nut vendors will bring their own umbrellas and tables to do their betel-nut vending,” City Mayor Oge said.
He expressed HCC will only provide fencing, security and sanitation (toilets) on the site, and it is an open site that requires betel-nut vendors to bring their own belongings.
The betel-nut vendors please be reminded that Honiara City Council is preparing the city for the South Pacific Games (SPG) this year, 2023, says Acting Mayor Oge.
