Visiting Director General of International Planned Parenthood Federation Dr. Alvaro Bermejo tonight commended Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA) for its outstanding work here stating there’s a lot other countries can learn from SIPPA.
He cited SIPPA’s rich network across the country and partnerships as the strengthen of the organization, with last year alone reached up to 77,000 people— about 10% of the country’s population.
Bermejo visited Malaita yesterday and was very impressed with SIPPA’s work there.
Meanwhile SIPPA and the government tonight signed a partnership to further rollout their programmes nationwide.
Bermejo said the partnership will take SIPPA to a new level especially its work in the rural communities adding it would make a huge difference in the country.
SIPPA is dedicated to supporting access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, education and services in the country.
Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr Culwick Togamana who signed on behalf of the government said the MOU would help SIPPA provide effective services to “our people”.
He said the ability for SIPPA to reach mass populations has contributed significantly to the prevention of STIs’ HIV, and unwanted pregnancy.
He added very importantly SIPPA provides services right down to the rural areas in the country.
However, Dr. Togamana said whilst so much has been achieved there’s a lot that needed to be done.
He said the MOU will greatly enhance their partnership to deliver more effectively and efficiently to “our people.”
The new partnership replaces the previous one which ran from 2016 to 2022
