Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Lata, Temotu Province have arrested three more murder suspects on 29May 2020 in relation to an incident on Utupua Island.
This is the second lot of arrests that has been made in relation to the death of an elderly man on 31 December 2019.
So far a total of six adult male suspects have been arrested in connection with the same incident.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province, Superintendent James Toaki says, “Investigations into the matter is continuing as the prime witness to the incident was picked up by police from his village at Aveta on 31 May 2020. I would like to warn people who are involved in this kind of activity to refrain from it as there are stiff penalties for anyone who is found guilty in a court of law.”
“I would like to remind members of the public that taking out another person’s life is an offence under the laws of Solomon Islands. I appeal to the public and individuals in Utupua to work together with the police to investigate this matter.”
“My condolences to the family members and relatives of the deceased man,” says PPC Toaki.
