A senior police officer has urged the public to report any police officer(s) who involves in public gambling.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention (NCCP) Simpson Pogeava said it is absolutely wrong for police officers to involve in such activities.

Some communities have alleged that police officers have involved in public gambling known as ludo and pass.

“We need the public to come forward with names of officers. It is very wrong for them to involve in gambling. We have a process to deal with such officers,” he told journalists on Thursday.

“I encourage the public to come forward with names,” reiterate Pogeava.

On addressing gambling in public space, he said: “We tried our best to stop gambling but some people use lame excuses to continue gambling.”

Poheava said Police and HCC have destroyed many stalls but soon after they leave the gamblers return.

“Last week we just cleaned up some places in Honiara,” he added.

But Pogeava said it would not stop them from doing their job.

“We want to assure the public that we will continue with our job.  My call is for our people to look at alternative lawful ways to make money,” he said.
