Suspect allegedly kills man after seeing him with his girlfriend

A 50-year-old male suspect was arrested for the alleged murder of another male of his age in Makira Ulawa Province on the 9th of May after seeing him with his girlfriend, police said today.

The suspect was arrested on Monday (22 May) and was charged and will appear before court on a later date. This came after the lifeless body of the deceased was found beside a dwelling house in Kirakira town on 9 May 2023.

According to reports from the police, the suspect was disappointed after seeing his girlfriend with the deceased and allegedly attacked him.

The deceased was rushed to Kirakira hospital and later pronounced dead by the medical authorities.

In his weekly press conference today, Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau appealed to the people of both parties to remain calm and allow the police to carry on with their investigations.

“I appeal to both parties to remain calm and not to take the law into their own hands, we have other ways to resolve problems in our culture and let the police carry on with their investigations so that the person responsible faces justice before the courts”, he said.

Mangau also shared his condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased for the passing of their loved one.
