Mangau also said the arrests were made mainly for drivers that were driving unlicensed vehicles, presence of alcohol while driving, driving without valid drivers licences and other offences done during the traffic checks.

“Traffic officers have ensured that the safety of our road users must be observed, such as the operations conducted to give all drivers, vehicle owners and all citizens living in Honiara to understand and abide by the traffic regulations and also to respect other road users as well,” he said.

“This operation is targeted mainly on tracking down drunk drivers that are likely to cause accidents to other road users, unlicensed vehicles and also unlicensed drivers and other traffic related offences”, he added.

Commissioner Mangau also urged all road users and vehicle owners to abide by the traffic regulations and to validate both their vehicle and driving licences.

Meanwhile, from the arrests, four (4) people were verbally warned for driving unlicensed vehicles and were released for genuine reasons while the other 26 drivers were warned for prosecution and awaiting to attend court on a later date.
