Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Munda Police Station in Western Province are investigating an alleged arson incident in the Kire area on Rendova Island on 10 May 2020.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Munda Police Station Sergeant Rachel Lilo says, “In the early hours of Sunday 10th May 2020 a group of men, who reports say were drunk, were on their way to the Sagoma logging camp site when they met a young boy who was standing beside a white Hilux Toyota vehicle in the Kologolo area.
Sergeant Lilo explains, “The men questioned the young boy about who owned the vehicle and when he responded that the vehicle belonged to the logging company they took over the vehicle and the young boy managed to escape.”
“The group of men pushed the vehicle from the Koloqolo area to Kire about 200 meters away. The group of men then collected dead coconut branches and threw them inside the vehicle and set it on fire,” says  Sergeant Lilo.
“I call on people of Kire and Kologolo to come forward with any information related to this alleged incident to help police with their investigation. I appeal to parties in the incident to refrain from taking the law into their own hands but to assist police with their investigation,” OCS Sergeant Lilo emphasizes.
