Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) have arrested five suspects in relation to a murder incident on Lord Howe Island today, 10 April 2026.

The arrest was done after homicide investigators and pathologists, with the support of the Police Response Department (PRD), boarded patrol boat Gizo to Luaniua this week.

The five suspects are currently under the custody of PRD officers who support homicide investigators dealing with the murder incident.

It was alleged that the cause of death happened due to a fight among themselves, and as a result a young man died.

A post-mortem was successfully conducted and will form part of the police investigation. Investigation into the murder incident is ongoing.

Acting Commissioner Mr. Mathias Lenialu thanked the Luaniua community leaders for the support rendered to the police in dealing with the matter and the arrest.

Commissioner Lenialu rendered his appreciation to the existing Crime Prevention Committees (CPCs) in Luaniua for the support to make sure the matter has been dealt with as expected.

Mr. Mathias Lenialu sent his condolences to the relatives and family members for the loss of their loved one during this sad moment.

The police chief also thanked officers for their bravery during the bad weather, but they provided the much-needed mandate service to the remote Lord Howe Island.
