A heavy rain warning is now current for Western, Central, Malaita, Guadalcanal, Makira, Temotu and Rennell/Bellona province.
The Solomon Islands meteorological service (SIMS) issued the warning in its number three advisory this morning.
The weather office (SIMS) says situation is that a trough lies over Solomon Islands whilst a general easterly trade wind flow persists south of the country.
“Associated cloud and heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected to affect western, central, Malaita, Guadalcanal, Makira, Temotu and Rennell/Bellona province.
“Such localised heavy rain may lead to possible landslide and flash flooding over communities living near hill slopes, close to large rivers, streams and low lying areas.”
“Sea travellers are urged to consider safety actions as such heavy rain can reduce visibility.
“People are therefore strongly advised to take safety measures to avoid danger and loss of lives.”
