Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Auki in Malaita Province conducted an operation code named PRUNNING OP20 on 22 and 23 May involving about 40 officers to address crime related matters in the township and surrounding communities as the country continues the fight to prevent the coronavirus (COVID-19) from entering the country.
Provincial Police Commander Malaita Province Superintendent William Foufaka says, “The Operation involving frontline officers and officers of the Provincial Response Unit covered the streets, businesses, major infrastructures, residential areas, fuel depots, the wharf, markets and other locations.”
“There were some suspects arrested for traffic incidences during the Operation who are being dealt with to appear in the Auki Magistrates’ Court at a later date.”
PPC Foufaka adds, “Police will continue with its weekend operations as it continues to work in partnership with communities to prevent crime including the consumption of alcohol and kwaso which is responsible for a lot of gender based violence affecting the livelihood of our women and children.” “I want to thank the communities for their cooperation during the PRUNNING OP20 and I hope this will continue during future operations.
