The Government will host a Requiem Mass tomorrow, Friday 12th August to pray for, remember, reflect on and celebrate the life of the late Right Hon. Ezekiel Alebua, former Prime Minister of Solomon Islands who passed away on Sunday, 7th August 2022, at his village, Haimatua Weather coast of Guadalcanal.
Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare announced the Requiem mass in Parliament mid-week.
The Rt. Honourable Ezekiel Alebua, was Prime Minister from 1st December 1986 to 28 March 1989.
Tomorrow morning’s Requiem Mass will be held at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Honiara.
The Governor General, Hon. Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Cabinet Ministers and Members of Parliament will be part of the Memorial service.
Members of the Public, friends and relatives are being informed, the arrival time for the Requiem Mass is 9am.
Amongst some of the greatest achievements under the late Alebua’s leadership was the number of Bills that his government tabled in parliament – a total of 14 Bills in 1987 and 88 prior to the national general elections in 1989.
The late Rt. Hon. Alebua was also instrumental in the establishment of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
The former Prime Minister was laid to rest at his home village, Haimatua, Weathercoast on Wednesday 10th August…ENDS///.
