Prime suspect in Chinese businesswoman killing was a shop-keeper

The prime suspect in the killing of the Chinese businesswoman early this month was a shop-keeper in the store owned by the deceased and is still on the run in Malaita.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ian Vaevaso confirmed to journalists this morning that their focus is now on the prime suspect, who was a shop-keeper at the shop, who is still on the run between East and West Kwaio in Malaita.

“At the moment he is the only prime suspect that we have identified,” he said.

Vaevaso added: “Information confirmed that he is a worker and a shopkeeper of the shop.”

“RSIPF is appealing to the suspect to surrender to police,” he said.

Vaevaso reiterated that police had reviewed the CCTV and he was the only prime suspect at the moment.

He said police is on the ground and working with immediate families and communities for the suspect surrender.

Vaevaso said the the community in the area has been very helpful.

Police say the suspect is from East Kwaio.

The businesswoman was allegedly killed in his shop at Point Cruz on 13th April around 8am.

Since then police have identified the suspect who escaped on the same day to Malaita.

The killing has shocked Honiara City and it happened only four years after the murder of a Chinese couple at Town Ground.
