A consignment of beche-de-mer from Malaita Outer Islands alleged to have been illegally harvested has been confiscated by police on arrival in Honiara.
Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau confirmed today that his officers from the Honiara Central Police Station confiscated the consignment from the wharf when the ship arrived from Lord Howe. He could not disclose the actual date when his officers seized the beche-de-mer.
However Mangau said his officers were acting on request from the Ministry of Fisheries who requested for their assistance to deal with the beche-de-mer.
There is currently a ban on beche-de-mer harvest throughout the country and any harvests are illegal.
