PM impressed by Youth Photo Exibition

PRIME Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, MP yesterday, attended a photography storytelling exhibition at the National Art Gallery and told local photographers and organizers of the event of how impressed he was.

Prime Minister Sogavare was given the opportunity to view 15 photographs from different local photographers from Honiara and the Western Province.

The Prime Minister was also asked to select a photograph that from the exhibition.

In his remarks after viewing the exhibition, an impressed Hon. Sogavare expressed his appreciation and acknowledged the profound stories that he received from viewing the photographs.

“Trully, a picture is worth a thousand words, and these photos tells more than a thousand words,” he stated.

The objective of the initiative was to provide space for young photographers, particularly young female photographers already championing change to focus their lens on issues they care about personally.

With a participatory method to concept photography, this initiative provides space for young photographers to collaborate, share personal experiences and collectively agree on key national youth priorities and recommendations that is shared with decision-making bodies. 

Meanwhile, young female photographer Juanita Aetorea  also expressed her appreciation towards the Prime Minister’s attendance.

“Your presence here today speaks volume of your continued commitment towards ensuring better wellbeing for young people in Solomon Islands. You are our champion. All of you are.” She said.

“Prime Minister and invited guests, today is about revisiting our young self and being able to listen to images that are told through the heart’s perspective.” She further stated.

Hence, Prime Minister Sogavare, after going through the exhibition selected a photograph by young female photographer Juanita Aetorea stating that Aetorea’s photograph speaks volume of and is a representation of what the Government considered as a matter that must be addressed seriously.

Minister for the Ministry of Women, Youth and Family Affairs Hon. Freda Tuki, MP was also part of the event.
