PIMEU Holds Seminar Updates

The Policy, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, PIMEU, within the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, OPMC, is holding seminar updates in its efforts to effectively carry out its mandated roles.

The seminar updates include discussions and presentations by private sectors and general public representatives to get insights and feedbacks on government policies and programs that are being implemented.

PIMEU has this week, started conducting seminars with the invitation of a private sector representative, Wilson Maelaua MBE, who has presented on and discussed tourism strategies especially during this time of COVID-19.

Mr Maelaua said COVID 19 has affected tourism industry both internationally and locally and it is very important that domestic strategies can be considered and integrated in the tourism policy. 

He said it is crucial that at this time the government’s policy unit within the Prime Minister’s office relook at ways to improve the government’s tourism policy.

Mr Maelaua has presented key areas which he believed would help PIMEU in redirecting their focus on the tourism sector.

The key areas under the 7As of Tourism (Access, Accommodation, Attractions, Activities, Amenities, Awareness and Alliances), which are important for Domestic tourism in Honiara City, Domestic tourism in the provinces and Post Covid-19 Preparations.

Meanwhile Policy Secretary for the Productive Sector in the OPMC, Dr Samson Viulu acknowledged Mr Maelaua for the informative presentation, which will help compliment the Government’s policies.

Dr Viulu said such presentations and discussions are timely and important to note from the private sectors, other stakeholders and the public as the Government is redirecting its policies.

He added that insights gained from such discussions are helpful for PIMEU officers to effectively carry out their roles.

National Consultant, Fundamental Reform Sector Mr Bernard Bata’anisia said the seminars and discussions will hopefully become a regular event to enlighten the PIMEU staff.

Bata’anisia said representatives and experts from other sectors will be invited to present and discuss on their specialised fields.
