Now the group photo shoot turns to provinces as Malaita MPAs for Redirection claims they have numbers

With national politics now concluded with the election of the prime minister, focus is turning to the provinces, and one them is Malaita Province as lobbying for the primer ‘s position intensifies.

The country’s biggest province elects its new premier on Tuesday next week and stakes are high, with one camp claiming that they now have the numbers to rule to Malaita.

Spokesman for the DS Motel Camp and MPA for Ward 21 in South Malaita, Jerry Hite said they now have the numbers to form the new government.

He’s group is one of the two camps in Auki.

He said the new Malaita Government for Redirection is headed by Elijah Asilaua and currently has 20 MPs of the 33 members of Malaita, with one from MOI expecting to join their ranks tomorrow.

“We have 20 MPAs and we are confident of leading Malaita in the next four yours,” he said.

Hite said they only wanted to work with the new government and help to develop their province.

“We are not pro-China, India or Europe but we just want to work with the government as their agent here,” Hite said.

“We will stick together until the election and we hope to win the elections,” he said.

The group is made up of mostly new MPAs and those under ousted premier Martin Fini.

Meanwhile a former premier Daniel Suidani has confirmed that he’s not contesting the premier’s position.

He has expressed concern that there were messages targeted towards him that if he came to power, he would stop developments on the island.

But Suidani said this is not true because he had never planned to do that. “It is not a message against Malaita. It’s message against me.”

Despite that he promised that he would work together with the new Malaitan government that will be elected next week.
