Preparations are currently underway for a National Investment Symposium to be held in Honiara in March 2020.

This is according to the Secretariat of the Cabinet Sub-Committee Mrs. Freda Unusi during a briefing with the Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, MP, yesterday.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Government, Central Islands Province and Russel Islands Investment Forum (RIIF) in September 2019 which sets the pathway for reinvestment and redevelopment in Russell Islands.

The purpose of the symposium is to bring together potential investors and to promote various potential sites for investments in the agriculture, fisheries and tourism sector.

Recently, a 2 part Investor Dialogue Series was organised by the Cabinet Sub-committee which brought together technical experts and high-level officials from the Government ministries to draw out incentives for investment in Russell Islands.

“It is a cross-sectoral opportunities approach and that various sector opportunities can be enhanced to promote investment in Russell Islands,” Secretariat of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, Freda Unusi stated.

According to the Secretariat, the committee is working closely with the Russel Islands Investment Forum (RIIF) executive and the Central Islands Province in relation to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government and RIIF in September 2019.

Mrs. Unusi stated that landowners have stated their interest to offer land for the purpose of investment in the areas of agriculture, fisheries and tourism.

Prime Minister Sogavare took the opportunity to convey his gratitude to the work done by the committee and acknowledged the support from the RIIF executive and the Central Islands Provincial Assembly.

He also urged that coordination between line ministries and national projects to be enhanced. MPA for Lavukal Ward Hon. Humphrey Salopuka and Chairman of the RIIF Leslie Norris also accompanied Mrs. Unusi to the briefing.
