MP questioned by Police over alleged misuse of funds

The MP for Ulawa/Ugi William Marau has been questioned by police investigators and a report has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution Office for further sanctioning.

Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau confirmed that they had interviewed Marau following complaints raised against him by his constituents regarding housing scheme projects in the constituency.

“Yes we had interviewed the MP as part of our investigations,” Mangau said this morning.

When pressed to give more details Mangau said the allegation against him was the misuse of funds for housing projects in his constituency.

He said the DPP process would take between 14-28 days so they’ll wait for the outcome before taking the next action— like pressing charges against the MP.

Asked if the latest case against the MP shows JANUS is still alive, he replied: “JANUS is still alive and active and still progress with its work.”

Marau was a former minister in the current Sogavare led Government before he was replaced last year.

This is his second time as an MP.
