Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Jeremiah Manele MP has sent a message of sympathy to His Excellency, Dr Lachlan Strahan the Australian High Commission to Solomon Islands to families who lost their loved ones to COVID-19 in Australia.
Minister Manele conveyed the condolence during the Australian and Solomon Islands Government signing of SBD$71 million support agreement towards the fight against COVID-19 today in Honiara.
“Excellency, on behalf of the government and the people of Solomon Islands, I convey our heartfelt condolences to your government and to the families of those who lost their loved ones to COVID-19. As one Pacific family, we offer our solidarity and prayers with you and seek God’s guidance and strength as we continue to navigate this path though these challenging and trying times.”
Hon. Manele also acknowledged and thanked the support provided by Australia to Solomon Islanders who are stranded in Australia.
“Thank you for allowing them to stay on until such a time when our international borders are open again soon so that can return safely home and join the families and loved ones. These also includes the Seasonal Workers who have been permitted by the Australian government to remain and continue working to support themselves and their families back home for up to 12 months. Australia is indeed a true friend.”
“Excellency, on behalf of the government and the people of Solomon Islands, I would like to convey our sincere appreciation and thanks to the government of Australia and its people for providing the much needed budget support to assist us in our fight against the COVID-19.”
