Former Solomon Islands Ambassador to the European Union and seasoned diplomat Joseph Ma’ahanua has been appointed as the new high commissioner to Fiji.

The announcement was made tonight by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collin Beck during the SPOTLIGHT Programme on TTV1.

He made the announcement following the host (Fiji) government’s agreement sent by Honiara naming Ma’ahanua as the new high commissioner there.

Ma’ahanua is currently the trade advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He had previously served in various of the country’s missions abroad with the latest being the ambassador to the EU based in Brussels.

Ma’ahanua replaces William Soaki who has successfully completed his stint in Suva.

SBMOnline understands that Soaki has been crossed posted to head one of the missions abroad but Foreign Affairs is still waiting on agreement from the receiving government.
