Grandfather rapist sent to 8 years in jail for raping granddaughter

A 53 year old grandfather who was guilty of raping his four-year-old granddaughter was sentenced to 11 years in jail today but he will only serve 8 years after considering all the mitigating features on his behalf.

Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer sentenced the grandfather from Fauabu, West Fataleka today in Auki after he was found guilty on Thursday.

The rape took place on 7^th February this year when the victim’s mother was out in the garden. The grandfather raped the 4-year-old in their home. Later the same day when the complainant’s mother bathed her she was complaining of irritation and pain to her private part that led to the arrest of the grandfather.
