The Government is still waiting for the outcome of a police report in Australia following a brawl between two seasonal workers there recently.
Reports said a fight between two seasonal workers had landed one in hospital and the other in police cell. It was not clear what led to the fight but reports say it was an alcohol related brawl.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Collin Beck told journalists this afternoon that the matter is now being dealt with by Australian Police.
“Once they have dealt with – then ministry will make it pronouncement,” he said.
Beck assured the public that they have strict rules that guide the engagement of “our workers in Australia.”
“We certainly have strict rules,” he said that in terms of discipline.
He also confirmed that the number of Solomon Islands workers in Australian has also increased and it is almost 2,000.
Two more flights next month should carry Solomon Islands total number to over 2,000 Beck confirmed today.
The brawl between the two seasonal workers has attracted widespread criticism on social media.
