The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) 2020 Extra-Ordinary Congress was successfully concluded today Thursday 20 February as football leaders in the country discussed way forward to develop the world game in the country.
Before the Extra-Ordinary Congress, a 2-day workshop was held at the Allen Box Complex on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th February to allow member associations to do their presentation.
During the pre-congress meetings each Member Associations were allowed to deliver their presentations to give SIFF a deeper understanding of their activities in their respective provinces.
SIFF Technical Director, Moses Toata and Project Manager, Joseph Boso also did their representations on strategic development plans and FIFA Forward 2.0 to give the Provincial Member Associations (PFA) an insight on SIFF Technical Department and major projects.
SIFF President, William Lai highlighted in his official address that football in the country has achieved a lot over the past two years despite so many challenges.
“I am pleased to say that we have been facing ups and downs in the past two years,” he said.
“We have achieved positive results despite the many challenges we encountered.
“Football is the national sport in this country and it is not easy to do develop it without the support from the PFA, partners, fans and the government.”
Lai assured the football leaders that under his leadership youth development through tournaments and technical programmes is a priority.
The Congress also passed the SIFF Activity Report 2018, Financial Statements, Audit Report for 2018 and the 2020 SIFF Budget.
The Congress was also informed of the appointment of Pricewaterhouse Coopers Chartered Accounts to carry out audit services for 2019 and 2020 financial year.
Another item presented to the congress is the Lawson Tama 2020 upgrade project aimed to improve Lawson Tama stadium to comply with international standards and public use certification with a budget of USD$4.5 million under the FIFA customized projects and fulfill a FIFA Forward 2.0 Regulations.
Present at the Extra-Ordinary Congress are representatives from Central Islands FA, Guadalcanal FA, Honiara FA, Isabel FA, Makira Ulawa FC, Malaita FA, Laura FA, Rennell Bellona FA, Temotu FA, Western FA and four Telekom S-League clubs with Solomon Islands Football Coaching Association (SIFCA), Solomon Islands Football Referees Association (SIFRA) and Solomon Islands Women’s Football Association (SIWFA).
