ESP referrals with RSIPF, investigations underway

BREAKING….Police have confirmed that investigations are underway into the referrals from the Auditor General’s Office on the alleged abuse of the Economic Stimulus Package

The Auditor General has already submitted the referrals this year and police this afternoon confirmed the files are now under the spotlight with the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

“Yes, I can confirm we have received the report from the Office of the Auditor General,” confirmed a senior police officer in the RSIPF management team.

Speaking exclusively to SBMOnline, police said NCID officers have been tasked and investigations now underway into the files submitted by OAG.

“It is the Commissioner’s priority so police are acting on it,” the senior officer, confirmed.

When approached, the OAG said they have already submitted the referrals and the matter is now with the police to investigate.

There were repeated public calls for those who were alleged to have abused the public funds to face justice following the release of the ESP report in the later part of 2024.

The audit found extensive abuse of the more than $300m given under ESP to support businesses recover from the effects of COVID-19.
