COVID-19 quarantine station assistant camp manager arrested

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Honiara City have arrested and charged one COVID-19 quarantine station assistant manager at Tuvaruhu in central Honiara in the early hours of 15 March 2021.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City, Superintendent John Matamaru says, “An initial report states that police responded to a report of common nuisance. Upon arrival, the suspect confronted the police in a provocative and hostile manner. Police subsequently got the situation under control by apprehending him to the Honiara City Central Police Station watch house.”

“During the trip from the place of incident to the Watch House, his actions were very unacceptable. He was then arrested and placed in custody and was dealt with the next day.” (16 March 2021).

“He has been charged with offensive behavior in police premises contrary to section 193 (c) of the Police Act and drunk and disorderly contrary to section 175 (d) of the Penal Code,” says PPC Matamaru.

The COVID-19 quarantine station assistant manager has been released on bail to appear in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court on 26 April 2021.
