The controversial Honiara City Clerk Rence Sore has been sacked by the HCC Executive yesterday.
Sore has been in the centre of several controversies at the HCC some of them include the latest storm that surrounded the selling the council’s land to an Asian allegedly using fake minutes to the Commissioner of Lands for the transfer of the land to the much debated purchase of fire extinguishers by borrowing from a local businessman who is also an appointed councilor.
Our well placed source within the HCC confirms that Sore was sacked by the full executive in its meeting on Tuesday.
“Yes he was sacked and has left the office yesterday,” our source said.
His sacking comes only a week after former Lord Mayor Wilson Mamae was ousted in a motion of no confidence. Mamae hired Sore as his Clerk. Both have now left the HCC in a span of seven days. Deputy Mayor Francis Idu is the acting mayor until a new mayor is elected.
SBMOnline contacted Sore but he could not pick up his phone.
One HCC executive member who was present at the meeting confirmed to SBM saying: “Yes we terminated him on Tuesday and it became effective on Wednesday.”
He said though Sore tendered his resignation late yesterday it was already too late as the full executive had already made the decision. This means Sore will lose all his benefits.
The councilor said the executive agreed to terminate Sore because of his association with the former mayor and the controversies that surrounded their leadership.
