China announces winning company to build National Stadium for PG2023

Chinese company China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has been announced today as the winning bid to build the key infrastructures for the 2023 Pacific Games in including the 10,000 capacity National Stadium.

In a special event held at the Office of the Prime Minister, PRC Ambassador to Solomon Islands Li Ming announced the winner saying after intense, open and transparent process, CCECC has been declared the winner.

The key infrastructures for the games is funded by China and is expected to cost around USD$85m. It will take 24 months to build and ground breaking ceremony to commence work will be held on 5^th May and they anticipate to deliver the facilitates to the government by June 2023.

Li said the infrastructure would add new landmark in the skyline of Honiara adding it would further help to boost the country’s economy.

Sogavare in response has thanked PRC for their support and congratulated the winner, CCECC.

He said the fact that they are established here it would be easier for

Sogavare told the Chinese envoy here that: “The wisdom of your government’s decision has already proven itself, because I understand that CCECC has already mobilised to build its administration and extra accommodation facilities for the construction of the stadiums. This is something that would not have been possible if a nonresident company was selected.”

 CCECC also built the major building at SINU Panatina Campus and currently in the finishing stages of the High Performance Centre at old Telekom ground.

Meanwhile Sogavare said this project comprises a total of seven separate infrastructures is one of the largest infrastructure projects to be funded and built by the People’s Republic of China in any of PRCs partner Pacific Island country.

The seven infrastructures include:

1. A 10,000-seat national stadium which includes 1,000 VIP seats,
2. An Aquatic centre hosting a 50-meter competition pool, and a 25-meter training pool,
3. A six-court tennis centre
4. A full-sized training track and field with a full-sized soccer/
5. rugby field
6. A 90 meters by 50 meters multi-purpose hall
7. A 5-aside competition hockey field
8. A double story food court and office space building for the Games Organising Committee.
