An Australian medical assistant team is arriving tomorrow to do a rapid assessment of the situation COVID-19 situation in the country.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Pauline McNeil told a radio talkback show tonight that the team is here to do a rapid assessment of the current COVID-19 situation.

Honiara is in lockdown for four days ending tomorrow (Sat 5pm) after COVID-19 community transmission was detected last week.

McNeil said amongst those in the team are specialised nurses and doctors to support NRH.

McNeil said they would be here for 14 days and if there is a need to get more “we will mobilise.”

Mcneil today revealed that a total of 143 positive cases were recorded in past 24 hours bringing the total to 898 cases.
