Australia provides 4WD ambulance to St John’s

 The Australian High Commission and Australia’s Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) today (8 April 2020) provided a 4WD Ambulance for the St John Ambulance Service in Honiara.

 In recent weeks, St John Ambulance Service has received calls for medical assistance in locations where access is limited to 4WD vehicles only. Until now, the St John fleet has not had a 4WD response capability. 

 “Australia is delighted to be able to assist St John in this way as we all put preparations in place in case coronavirus reaches Solomon Islands,” said Australian High Commissioner Dr Lachlan Strahan. 

 “The High Commission and SIPDP are working hard daily with our Solomon Islands partners to make sure we together take every possible precaution.”

 The ambulance – previously an Aspen Hospital vehicle – is fully fitted out for medical transport. St John have installed a new Stryker transport stretcher, oxygen tanks and restocked the ambulance with all the necessary supplies. The ambulance has been updated with St John livery and has had its reflective decals refurbished.

 St John will now be able to run multiple ambulance response teams in Honiara. This is a great news for the people of Honiara and further assists preparations for any arrival of coronavirus in the city.
