7 passengers from Fiji remain in quarantine awaiting final results: PM

SEVEN passengers from the recent repatriation flight from Fiji have been extended few more days in quarantine.

The seven are part of the 132 people that arrived from Fiji on 28 October 2021.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his nationwide address said only 125 have been released from quarantine, whilst the remaining seven people from the flight, comprising members of two families have been extended for a few days.

The Prime Minister said two of the people in these families returned inconclusive test results on their final tests so the families have not been released.

He said they will be re-tested after several days and will be released if their results returned with a definite negative.

“The Ministry of health is undertaking further contact tracing on the two families, including in Fiji prior to the families leaving Fiji on 28 October 2021,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said a further 22 people will be released today, bringing to 37 the total number of people remaining in our quarantine stations.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister reiterated that the total registered cases in Solomon Islands remains at 20 with no new COVID-19 cases in the last six months.

“I acknowledge our frontliners, support staff, donors and partners, private sector operators, NGOs, community chiefs, elders, and church leaders for working together to make sure no new COVID-19 cases enter the country,” he said.

Prime Minister Sogavare said the country’s current COVID status is also a reflection of the regulations and the measures in place which prevent the entry of COVID-19 into the country and by the same token to isolate, manage and eliminate the infection if it did enter the country.
